I've loved the Zolas for sixteen years. The first time I ever saw them was at Rifflandia in Victoria, BC (RIP), shortly after their first album dropped; I went to see Metric that night, but they were the first band onstage and they blew me away. A decade and a half and four albums later (so far), they remain one of the best bands I know; I've seen them live half a dozen times and it's been magical every time. And in honour of their Swooner 10th anniversary tour, I'm gonna bite the bullet and finally do something I've wanted to do for years: a full breakdown of their albums, their songs, and the lyrics that make them such incredible musicians.
A whirling piano-pop infused record with big ambitions.
A contemplative album about the emptiness of space and the emptier spaces of the heart.
